We care about clothes because we recognise the value and self worth people can gain through choosing clothing items that fit their personality and style. Clothes are closest to our bodies, and at Freedom of Choice we understand they are also closest to our inner selves and our self perceptions. In today’s society clothing not only meets our physical needs for protection and functionality, but is also an important way for us to demonstrate our identity and individuality through self expression. Clothes are our own personal form of communication.
The choices we make about the clothes we wear have the ability to affect the way feel about ourselves. Clothing choices can send positive or negative messages to a wearer, impacting mood and self perception. In a social environment where people experience extreme hardship, insecurity and prolonged uncertainty, it is imperative to us to be advocates for the mental and emotional well being of the communities we work with whilst also providing protection through the distribution of clothing.
